Being a bartender is not an easy job by any means. There’s the stress of handling a boatload of clients and trying to mix dozens or hundreds of drinks perfectly. However, more than that, it’s the nature of the job which makes it so hard to stay motivated. You’re essentially enabling people to have fun and watching them as they do so.
However, while motivation might not be the easiest to come by, you need it to be successful at your job. It’s a particular area of work in the hospitality sector which requires you to be at the top of your game a all times. Here’s how you can do that:
Mentally Prepare Yourself: Create Goals
The very first step to take is to mentally brace yourself. Create goals for yourself each workday and make sure that you take them seriously. To make those goals easier on yourself, and easier to accomplish, subdivide them into further smaller goals. Take it step by step, but always have a plan at each step. By giving yourself something to work towards, you can prepare yourself for the entire day or night and all of its positive developments.
Remember How Fortunate You Are
If you have had a passion for drinks and love making them, then you’re one of the few people who can actually partake in what they like. Remember how fortunate you are to do what you’re passionate about and revel in your work. Keep working for your own happiness and try out different things to keep your passion and your interest afloat.
Learn to Dismiss Negative Energy
To be influenced by negative energy is quite easy. Once it sets itself upon you, it tends to stay for a while. However, if you let it stay, you’re bound to feel a number of things that are going to upset you during your working hours and during many different times of the day. Hence, whenever a bout of negative energy comes over you, you need to do as much as you possibly can to make sure that you get rid of it. Take a small break and do some stretching, or go for a short walk and get that negative energy out of your system.
Bartenders often have flexible schedules, meaning you have ample time to go about and refresh your mind. Go to the gym and hang out with friends. Take some time off and go on a vacation to give your mind and body some new environment to live in. You need to refresh yourself in order to keep your motivation levels high.
One more aspect that you have to ensure is that you celebrate each one of your accomplishments. Give yourself the fuel your motivation needs to stay alive and burning. Through that and the steps listed above, you can keep yourself motivated while behind a bar.
